Planned Itinerary

As we prepared to depart, we were often asked, “so, where exactly are you going?”  In an effort to answer this, here is an outline of what we are planning to do.  An emphasis must be placed on “planned,” as over the course of a year things can and probably will change

·         Vancouver à Amsterdam

·         Amsterdam à Pretoria (via Johannesburg)

·         Pretoria à Swaziland

·         Swaziland à Pretoria

·         Pretoria à Nature’s Valley

·         Nature’s Valley à Kampala (via Johannesburg)

·         Kampala à Bufukhula (via Jinga and Mbale)

·         Bufukhula à Nairobi

·         Nairobi à Arusha

·         Arusha à Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park

·         Western Tanzania à Dar es Salaam

·         Dar es Salaam à Zanzibar

·         Zanzibar à Mbeya

·         Mbeya à Lilongwe (with stops on the way along Lake Malawi)

·         Lilongwe à Lusaka

·         Lusaka à Victoria Falls

·         Victoria Falls à Maun

·         Maun à Pretoria

·         Pretoria à Cape Town (and Stellenbosch)

·         Cape Town à Namibia (driving)

·         Namibia à Cape Town

·         Cape Town à Istanbul (with stopover in Dubai, Cairo, or Addis Ababa)

·         Istanbul à North through Eastern Europe (stops to be determined, but likely capital-city-hopping)

·         Tallinn à St Petersburg

·         St Petersburg à Moscow

·         Moscow à Ulaan Bataar (via Trans-Siberian / Trans-Mongolian railway)

·         Ulaan Bataar à Beijing

·         Beijing à Hong Kong (with stops in X’ian, Chongqing, Yichang, Shanghai, Guilin, and more to be determined)

·         Hong Kong à Ha Noi

·         Ha Noi à Ho Chi Minh City

·         Ho Chi Minh City à Bangkok

·         Bangkok à Krabi (and surrounding islands)

·         Krabi à Bangkok

·         Bangkok à Delhi

·         Delhi à Mumbai

·         Mumbai à Vancouver

    Hi you two,
    Hope you had a good visit with T and E.
    Here is my first book recommendation, Tara. “The Madonnas of Lenigrad.” I realize you won’t be there for a long time, yet, but if you are planning to visit the Winter Palace (Hermitage Museum), which I am sure you will….this is a great novel about the museum and the seige of Lenigrad. Can’t remember the author… Deam? And I am not sure where you would find it over there…but there you go!

    Your itinerary is amazing! I loved Tanzania especially the Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar is a wonderful place to ‘chill out’ for a few days. I know you are forging your own path on this journey, but if you want any ‘must do’ suggestions when you hit Asia, let us know. And of course, we eagerly await your visit to Hong Kong!
